Before I joined this site I have lurked and read a lot of articles and I have noticed that there is a noticeable lack of diversity for extinct fauna, also the articles that feature them either feature popular extinct fauna and/or they are relegated to only being mentioned in passing. So, I have formulated this challenge to open the gates to these untouched fruits and they are ripe for harvest.
Welcome, to Obscure Paleo-fauna Challenge1.
Easy Mode:
- You must use an obscure extinct fauna from any era, period or epoch.
- You are not limited to only writing SCP articles as you are allowed to write other formats such as; tales, GOI formats, Anomalous Item, etc.
- You must have the fauna as the main focus in your writing.
- You can use any genre as you see fit.
- Do not feature popular fauna for example; T-rex, Triceratops, Velociraptor, Utahraptor, Ankylosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Wooly mammoths, Smilodon, Dimetrodon, and many others that have a significant pop-culture status.
- You are allowed to write in any length as you see fit.
Hard Mode:
- Same as Easy Mode.
- Except instead of extinct fauna, feature an extinct flora.
Or
- Feature two extinct fauna from separate time periods in the same article, tale or format. For example; a tale featuring a Carboniferous fauna and a Paleocene fauna.
Extra Hard Mode:
- Same as Hard Mode.
- Write an article that includes this challenge and another challenge of your choice. For example; this challenge and Tag Golf or Zyn's Kawaii Insect Melodies.
To give you a little jumpstart. Here are three examples of an obscure extinct fauna with links2:
- Platybelodon: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platybelodon
- Opibinia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opabinia
- Tanycolagreus: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanycolagreus
That just about wraps this writing challenge up and enjoy writing these under-loved oddities that nature has made. And don't forget to rest and take your time, but who's stopping you?
