I came across the idea of hume a few months back and was fascinated by the idea of it. I hadn't found many entries exploring this idea so I thought I would write my own. In short, my idea is an area of space where there are openings to other realities with extreme hume contrasts to the current reality the SCP Foundation exists in, additionally, the area that the SCP affects is expanding. The amount of "positive" and "negative" hume levels are equal due to a universal need to balance out. Physical structures inside the SCP, including celestial bodies, will fluctuate due to multiple versions of reality trying to exist at once. This brings a challenge for exploration teams which I will explore in a series of expedition logs.

It may seem like an under cooked idea but I will elaborate on any questions regarding the finer aspects of my proposed SCP.

You have a pretty cool idea here, and I think the main question I have is with scope. How many of these pillars are there? And just how extreme do the fluctuations get? The concept of needing balance in the Hume levels makes a lot of sense, and it's nice to see something as nebulous and poorly understood as Hume levels be taken in a more scientific direction.

the other issue is, of course, narrative. You've got a pretty cool idea here, and it's clear what you want to do with it, but there's no real story or anything that makes me emotionally invested in this idea. Are you going to focus on how certain Foundation members interact with it? How they discover it and what it is, or does? Other beings living within these alternate dimensions? there are quite a few places you could take a concept like this, all of which could be done well, but we kind of need to know where you're taking this before we can give you an idea of whether or not it's something we'd like to see explored more.

Sorry for the late reply.

As it stands now, I plan to use a combination of journal entries and transcribed audio logs to push the narrative of an expedition team traveling inside my SCP, eventually finding the true nature of it and how they can contain it. The pillars of hume theoretically don’t have a limit, however the maximum reported at once is about 9 (mainly because I don’t want the SCP to cause a world ending scenario right off the bat). I want to stay as far away from lifeforms inside the hume pillars due to the likely hood of life in an empty universe being almost 0, and resorting to bad luck instead of a naturally dangerous SCP to drive a story doesn’t really sit well with me. Not to mention the ruptures cycle periodically at a quick rate causing any life form to appear to be a temporary threat.

Currently, I do not believe my writing is up to the “foundation standard“ and may take a long time to fully develop the idea. All the things I said can change at any time, however the core idea and the exploration of hume as a scientific principle will remain the same.
