Hullo.
Sapphireonice and I have been working on our entry for the SCP-5000 con, and I'm here just now to clear the idea for Drafts and Critiques.
The object is a script for a noir play, deliberately engineered to pass several strong memes to the reader. The memes are SCP-5000-1, which causes the reader to become obsessed with creating a film adaptation of the play, and an obsession with the underlying mystery itself (the anonymous author credit, the non-existent publishing company, etc.) to take care of anyone with sufficient cognitive resistance.
Our hero, a senior memetics researcher, is assigned to the skip, and as told through a series of logs from his personal audio diary, slowly becomes more and more exhausted and forgetful as bruises and pockmarks begin appearing on his arms. While the other branches are handling the breach and bringing the items into containment, he laments that the research isn't going anywhere and the mystery seems so close, yet so far from solving.
He is found unresponsive on his office floor with a huge cocktail of amnestics in his system, and his files and belongings are searched for clues. It isn't until the last log that several men are heard bursting into his office mid-recording, one of them preparing amnestics and the other restraining him while the office is swept and the SCP file is replaced with a new copy. Thus the real mystery remains unanswered: who are these people, and how much evidence have they erased? How many times has this happened?
