SCP-XXX is a primarily purple virtual reality headset. Upon visual inspection no oddities are found other than a lack of cables leaving SCP-XXX, as well as a lack of ports for cables to enter. SCP-XXX was found at the entrance of site XXX at 10:39 A.M. local time in a white box (presumed to be its packaging) and devoid of any markings except a large stamp on the opening flap with the words, “New From Dr.Wondertainment^tm,” . Inside was SCP-XXX wrapped in standard bubble wrap, as well as a manual detailing how to operate and error codes (Left out of this). Once properly assembled and placed on the head of someone younger than the age of 25, the headset activates. Once activated, a humanoid made of a dark mist appears within 3 meters of the wearer, designated SCP-XXX-1. The wearer sees from the perspective of SCP-XXX-1. The wearer is able to move and manipulate SCP-XXX-1 by thought. The only known limitation of SCP-XXX-1 is that all commands must pertain to SCP-XXX-1 (ex: Cause X pain will not work, however punch X will). SCP-XXX-1 is able to interact and pick up almost all objects. SCP-XXX-1 is also able to be interacted with, but shows no visible change, instead the wearer of SCP-XXX will feel the effects. Thus far, SCP-XXX-1 has been shown to transfer heat, electricity, as well as physical contact. Testing shows that even if sufficient damage is done to SCP-XXX-1 to create bruising or bleeding, the wearer will not show external signs of damage, however will feel injured the corresponding amount. SCP-XXX-1 has also been shown to Growing taller/shorter and enlarge a specific body part on command. SCP-XXX-1 is able to reach up to 500 meters away from SCP-XXX, exceeding this will destroy SCP-XXX-1 and cause an error code to flash on the screen of the wearer. Removing SCP-XXX from the wearer head also has a similar outcome, minus the error.

From the idea written here, and from the brief conversation we had in chat, I'm not going to give this the go-ahead.

Let's get into why ->

There is nothing at all about this idea that makes me want to read this in full form. As it is currently presented, it is merely a thing what does a thing, and that is patently not interesting.

The whole thing plays heavily on a bunch of heavily-trod tropes that aren't really very exciting to the overall voting community, and it doesn't play well with the stuff that is being posted these days. Almost all of the Series 1 skips lack a cohesive narrative, and most of the current authors have long
since stopped even looking at them.

You need to craft a story that starts somewhere, has a solid middle, and ends somewhere. The ending doesn't have to be a conclusion, it can be something that leaves the reader guessing, it can end on an ominous tone of "hmmmm, now what", or something.

Think about your skip like watching a movie rather than just a side piece in a movie about the SCP-verse. Give it an opening "Oh shit, maybe we shouldn't have made this", a middle "thing gets out, maybe we shouldn't have let the Factory rep in here", and some sort of end.

Also, a piece of tech that feeds off the wearer doesn't sound at all like something that Dr. Wondertainment would produce, like at all. Admittedly, I haven't read a lot of Wondertainment skips, but most of the stuff I've read have all been stuff for children. The people at Wondertainment are all about bringing joy and laughter to children, not something that's going to draw them in like a drug and feed off their souls.

At first I thought maybe this could be a Factory thing, 'cause the feeding off the soul bit, but it's too polished and "modern" for them either.

So, can we make this better?

First, I'd take out Wondertainment. It doesn't fit, and it would generate downvotes purely from that. Lots of people love Wondertainment, and even with the whole No Canon thing, I don't think this would be well received.

Second, how about crafting a narrative around it? Maybe this was a piece created by an anartist that wanted a better VR headset, and inadvertently created something dangerous. The anartist realized it was too dangerous, but couldn't destroy a piece that they had made, so they conveniently leave it for the Foundation to discover.

Or maybe it was a Type Green that really liked the idea of creating something that would allow a lover or a friend to have access to similar powers to their own? They're "responsible" with the use of their own powers 'cause they've grown up with them and realize the SCP and/or the GoC would not be happy about it. But the new person? Not as careful, and they end up getting nabbed by a field team.

Or maybe it was a paratech engineer that wanted a to build something for their paraplegic/comatose family member, and it got way out of hand?

There are lots of ways to make this SOMETHING rather than just a thing.

My primary take away from this? If you're going to place something in a GoI, you should probably read a lot more about that GoI before choosing to put something in it. I made that mistake with my first skip, and it failed miserably.

Don't do that.

Right now this is just a thing that does a thing and there needs to be not only something new, but also something that keeps your audience's attention. I think also before reading that you should look into other Wondertainment cannons because there might be another headcanon of Wondertainment that could be more compatible with the basic anomaly.

Yes, I do, I just had to leave it out. Like I said, it can grow taller. As it, Godzilla tall and interact with objects. Secondly, the power source, while the user wears the headset, the helmet drains their life out of them. If this seems hard to discover, I was thinking the foundation would see what the adverse effects of wearing it long term are, and at the end the subject would be sweating and a few pounds lighter. Does this answer your question?
