Similar reaction here, but I'm not jazzed by the 2875 reference.
It was pretty well-written, but this just serves to further introduce what an anomalous badass (and evidently, pretty shitty counter-intelligence agent) Aleksandr is, and what nifty gadgets he has. There are hints of interesting stuff on the edges (the dreams, the bit about Magpie, his talk with his granny), but it's just on the edges. -1
If the granny turns out to be Baba Yaga, my eyes are going to roll so hard they might well fall out of my skull. Not to say that she's not an important figure in Russian folklore, but there are things that can be related to Russian culture outside of fairy tales, vodka, and communism. Plus, it would only serve to bring out unfavorable comparisons to Hellboy.
