As we all know, the Mass Edits are going on/Done. Granted, I can't tell which it is, because they decided to finish up in secret.

Thus leads to my problem.

The ONLY SCP I have created was deleted. This, would be fine, if someone had told me it was slated, and that I had a chance to save it, LET ALONE told me what was wrong so next time I could avoid those pitfalls.

Some might deduce that bad SCPs should just be burned, no reason, no questions asked. While this has some solid ground to stand on, this leaves writers of SCPs kind of in the dark about what was wrong with the ones that were burned to begin with, and with no chance of learning from the mistakes of that SCP.

Why not alert us when something we created is slated, if not for a chance to save it, then why it was bad and suggestions that could be made to improve the writer's skills at making SCPs. Else, we're going to be stuck with the ones we have, and where's the fun in that?

As you know, there's a been a SCP-246-J which was basically a parody of the Daleks. It was unlike other "pop culture reference" joke SCPs in that it was actually imaginative, creative and funny. However, it got deleted in the Mass Edit for no apparent reason.

Since I've got a copy on my hard drive, how about I restore it to existence?

1. Something that shuts off most of your brain, but makes up for it by ramping up your dopamine levels to ridiculous levels. Basically, you have no free will so others can order you to do things, but there's enough of your mind left to watch as you're made to do horrible, horrible things (like, say, Procedure 110-Montauk). Possible Cheshire Cat grin and/or regenerative properties for affected individuals under consideration.

2. An old pet collar with the word "Tumbles" (or some such name) on it. If worn by a dead animal capable of wearing it (not fish or birds, basically), said animal is revived with the personality of "Tumbles". The animal is then alive as long as they wear the collar (they probably die eventually as well). Cannot be used on the same animal twice. Pretty basic stuff.

3. An average metal safe with an electronic 8-digit keypad. It only opens if a person enters their birthdate as the code. Inside is something that is always useful to the person, or something that will soon come in handy. These might include anything from a watch if they want to know the time, a chocolate bar if they're hungry, a weapon if they're in danger, or a last will and testament if they're about to go on Keter duty. It only does this once for each person, however.

4. An antique-looking bookcase. If a book is placed on it and left alone for a while, it will be found with several hand-written comments, as if it's been marked by a teacher. There's a grade on the last page and everything. Oddly enough, this grade will have a significant impact on those that read the book afterwards: A's and B's will cause readers to be enamoured by the book (but not in an addictive way), while F's and "see me"'s will cause readers to react negatively, perhaps violently towards the book.

These are all just off the top of my mind (and it probably shows). Any of these worth developing?

Greetings Foundation!

I wanted to send a short 'thank you' for accepting my application to transfer into your organization. You may have heard of my work on ██████████, and I honestly believe my work on the incidents surrounding it is what continues to get me into great positions such as the one I've been offered here. I'm looking forward to meeting each of you and comparing notes on SCPs with similar qualities to the subjects of my previous research.

As for a short bio: I'm 24 and live in Virginia, USA. Though most of my time has been spent containing and testing ██████████, I've recently completed certification to teach English as a foreign language and intend to use this as a cover for work in a field office in Japan.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have!
-Adams

Edit: Wow, so your site is set up to automatically black out ██████████? I'm impressed. Anyone with proper clearance should feel free to message me privately about it then.

Frozen in a block of ice. Owner claims it was confiscated. Maybe we took it?

If there's already been a decision made about the fate of the SCP-1000 block, then never mind. Otherwise, I'm wondering if there's a plan to change the 1000s so that they're more consistent with their three-digit brethren. If so, renumbering them would be the quickest solution, but it wouldn't address what happens when 002 through 999 are full. One way I thought of to keep the three-digit limit while increasing potential numbers would be to use letters for the hundreds position for 1000 and higher; that is, after 999 is A00, then A01, etc. Even while skipping letters that look like numbers (B, I, O, S, Z), that's at least a couple thousand more potential entries with three-digit numbers. (Though I can see pros and cons to any course of action. And my apologies if this whole post is moot.)

Hello everyone, Agent Spinoza here.

I've been off and on this site for about a year now, but just now decided to join. Of course, being a college student, my action may be a bit sporadic for now (for example, I should be studying for my finals, but…ehhhhh), but I hope to be a, shall we say, contributing member to the Foundation.

Anyways, I'm going to say Hi through the chat system, so if you're there during the next hour you might see me there.

Humanoid SCP made to be killed off

 <wikidot:authorName>Leicontis</wikidot:authorName> <wikidot:authorUserId>393373</wikidot:authorUserId>

This is probably a horrible idea, but here goes: A humanoid SCP that is physically completely normal, and is more or less normal mentally, but whose unconscious mind has both potent precognitive abilities and an agenda. He has no conscious access to these abilities or knowledge of the agenda, but has his actions subtly influenced to just repeatedly be "in the right place at the right time" to further whatever that agenda is.

He came to the attention of the Foundation after repeatedly being involved in SCP-related incidents, seemingly by accident, due to minor, innocuous deviations from his ordinary routine (oversleeping, being early or late, attempting to find a new restaurant, etc). When questioned, he does relate a history of seemingly convenient timing, and can point to many incidents in his past where a small decision had a more profound (and unexpected) effect, though by no means always a positive one.

Since his containment, he has been involved in a number of containment breach incidents, in each case avoiding death by a fraction of an second/inch, though still spending a lot of time in intensive care. Also in each case, he just happened to, by his presence and/or actions, cause a noticeable change in the outcome (increase/decrease in fatalities, ending/prolonging the breach, etc.).

He does have brief flashes of insight, possibly moments where his unconscious ability surfaces for an instant. He's very fatalistic, and is certain that he has less than five years to live, and that his death will be violent, painful, and extremely undignified, but will also have some major effect.

I know the idea's not particularly scary (other than the "what is his agenda?" uncertainty) - I figure the only real function of an SCP of this nature would be to die in somebody's story, but there's something appealing to me about a character created solely to be used and destroyed as a tool for someone in a way I can't predict. The creep factor could potentially be enhanced by playing up the sympathy aspect - this is an ordinary guy who's being dragged along for the ride by a part of his mind that has incredible power, suspect motives, and no concern for his safety or feelings beyond how they can be useful to its plans. There is something inherently scary about the idea of having no real control over one's actions or future.

So, does this idea have any potential, or should it die a messy death before it can pollute the wiki with its horribleness?

Okay, maybe not full full-time, but I'm trying, dammit!

I go by Leicontis, and I'm a 26-year-old male from the Boston area. I stumbled upon this site a few weeks back, and since I've got a twisted, random, horrible mind, I figured I might have something useful to contribute. The clinical writing style of the SCPs suits me fairly well - my education included a number of projects, all of which required write-ups in a similar tone. Be forewarned, however, that I come from a family of teachers, and am thus prone to nit-picking over grammar, spelling, and the like.

Aside from that, I'm a horrible person - as I put on my application, I managed to elicit an exclamation of "You sick, sadistic bastard!" from a good friend whose personality resembles the in-character persona of Dr. Bright… and I did so with a Christmas present.

I've got a few SCP ideas, but most of them are mediocre at best. One may be workable into a joke SCP (since one of the first things I thought of from it was introducing Barney to 682). Another I've reworked into a story at pooryoric's suggestion, though I'm waiting until I get some feedback and polish it a bit before I try to post it on the site proper.

My idea is a brick that reflects damage dealt to itself back on the object inflicting the damage. The catch is that it only works if the brick would have been broken from the impact. So if you punch it, there will be nothing special. If your punch would have broken it, you will break your hand. Or if you try and hit it with a hammer the hammer will shatter. A building was being demolished when a wrecking ball was shattered. The cause was later found to be the brick. Thoughts?

Godless

767 and 741 - how can these be improved?

I happened to notice that both SCP-741 and SCP-767 are on the chopping block, at least potentially. 767 is mine originally, 741 isn't, but I put a fair bit of effort into trying to spruce it up. I'd like to dress both of these up and make them worthy of being kept.

741 is a bit of a weak premise to start with - can anything be done to save this one? I like the idea of a mysterious wrecked submarine, so I tried to play up that aspect, along with some mystery surrounding what wrecked it and why. The radioactive dagger is a leftover from the original version - I don't really like that part, but I felt obligated to keep it since it was part of the original SCP. Any ideas one way or the other?

As for 767, my original idea for this one was "thing that causes weird pregnancy, and brings dangerous things into the world". It also acts as an irreversible sex-changer (well, feminizer). That wasn't intended to be the principal effect, though - it was something I added so that the item can't be handled with impunity by men. I'm looking to rework this to play up the "bringer of weird, dangerous shit" aspect and dial back the sex-shifter aspect (though I'd like to keep that part, I'm not married to the idea). Is there anything else I should add/remove/alter to dress this one up?

SCP-ised Groundhog Day

Wouldn't it be great to be able to repeat the day?

Basically, a human SCP for whom the groundhog day scenario is real.

Moreover, he doesn't have the "perfect day" get-out clause. Instead, for him, the rule is: if he's more than ██ miles away from where he awoke (measured along the earth's surface) when he goes to sleep, he gets to experience a new day. If not, it repeats.

And this happens every single day.

Once taken in by the SCP foundation it is found that being enclosed by telekill when he goes to sleep, or when he awakes, also prevents the effect from functioning.

However, due to his usefulness as an early-warning device, he's often required to go up to ██ without sleep, through the administration of stimulants.

He was originally detected after being quarintined during [DATA EXPUNGED] in ██████, ██████████, where he was, according to his own testimony, instrumental in preventing an ██-class event.

Following further research into the samples of SCP-███ involved, this was determined to be ██████ ██████████.

Now, the humanoid SCP checklist:
* Is it a human? Yes
* Is it attractive and young? Probably reasonably fit and healthy when acquired, but will have deteriorated since then.
* Have you described, in inordinate detail, its tastes in music, food, fashion, and/or TV? Not intending to.
* Is it one of the nice guys? Kind of.
* Does it work for the Foundation in one of the Mobile Task Forces? No.
* Have you gone into inordinate detail talking about how much people like it? Not intending to.
* Have you spent an inordinate amount of time talking about its relationships with other SCPs? Interaction with this SCP should be limited
* Would you want to be this SCP? Or does the thought of being it fill you with dread? Closer to the latter.

Should I try and give this guy a full write-up after the purges? If so, what, if any, changes would you recommend?
Or is the base idea too cheesy?

Hi there. I'm Quasar, aka Schumacher, Schu, or whatever else you want to call me. I answer to everything and anything.

I cycle between bursts of creativity and bouts of logic, and reading this site caused one of the former, hence my current presence.

I'd like to think I'm an introspective, logical and polite 20 year old, which is a nice way of saying I'm a socially defective, emotionally detached and easy to manipulate kid. Either way, I'm a fan of hypocritical and self-deprecating humour, am extremely, awesomely and utterly modest (it's what makes me so awesome), prefer intriguing or funny SCP's over scary or disturbing ones, and don't like the abuse of science, so I won't approve of any SCP that tries to use invalid science to support it's oddities.

I have trouble participating in chat rooms because I like to have the option to think extensively about the wording of everything I put in writing, so you might not see me around there too often. I'll lurk when I can, though.

And the persona of research assistant Schumacer is not me, and any similarities with me are simply a result of some sort of 5/6th dimensional alternate-timeline anomaly. I don't even know what gender Schumacer is yet. In fact, I may simply never specify, and use gender neutral pronouns, or redact any mention of it. Which is one reason I want to make it clear that May/Mace is not me, because I am male. Definitely male. I emphatically deny that I look suspiciously girly.

So… yeah. Hi there.

So, we've had a lot of new people lately, figured I'd post about this again.

Friday, April 30th to Sunday, May 2nd, in Troy Michigan, Penguicon!

We are attempting to make this a big time SCP meet up, with both myself and Gears attending, along with a good handful of others. We're going to be doing a couple of panels (one on data expunged and the other on building an online community) and, hopefully, getting to know the faces behind the names.

Penguicon, for those not in the know is a Linux/Geek con. Don't be afraid of the Linux part, it plays as much or as little actual purpose in the con as you desire. They have panels on damn near everything, from horror writing to geeks and dating, to giant ass games of Munchkin- It's the funnest damn con I've ever been to.

Some helpful links!

Official Site- http://penguicon.org/
various mailing lists that help you learn about it: http://penguicon.org/lists.php
Livejournal Group http://community.livejournal.com/penguicon/

Any questions? Feel free to ask.

Also, if you're planning on coming, or thinking about coming, please let me know below.

I'm a bit new to the Foundation, but I've been wondering several things about the life of Agents and weather these can be clarified or if it's implied or if the Foundation wants to keep information on Agents as secret as possible.

So here are my questions, separated into groups, and with additional information when possible.

Agent Employment.
-How are agents found, interviewed and recruited?
I'm pretty sure most Agents don't just show up, whip out a kalashnikov and start shooting 076, except Strokinov. So are there any standard procedures around recruitment? Are Agents hired from Level-0 staff? Are they reviewed by higher ups based on specific skills and abilities?

-Are there standard wages, rewards, vacation time, and such for Agents?
Well this one is gonna be tough, but this is for 'most agents', not specific important agents or those in combat teams of importance. Perhaps they could have 'on call' vacation time in which they stay relatively near a Foundation site and are contacted if they are needed for whatever SCP's they work on

-How do Agents retire/opt out/get promoted either out of combat or out of the Foundation entirely?
I foresee 'Class-__ Amnesiac being said at least a billion times, but I'm talking about Agents of value to the foundation who want to be removed from combat or want to be on non combat duty. Obviously they would be subject to some sort of assessment to review how useful they are to the Foundation and such.

-Do Agents have any way to communicate their wishes/qualms with 05 Command?
This is more random than some, but I don't see Agents well represented in the Foundation Politicking. Do they communicate their opinions on specific SCP and have any ability to participate in writing Containment Procedures? When SCP's like 914 are used do they recommend test groups? What do agents DO beyond standing guard and dying, both of which Level-0 folks could do pretty much as well?

I know this seems kind of random, but I would like to know these for ease of introducing myself to the Foundation, and maybe hash out some cannon around the Foundation. I am of the opinion that the SCP Foundation should have its regulations as clearly explained as possible, to give it a sound opposition to the highly mysterious SCP's that it studies, and to build the nameless-faceless-anonymous-robotic style that the Foundation has.

Okay, so the new idea is a house of mirrors. Not the carnival attraction, though, a real house with all walls made out of mirrors. Pushing into a mirror will draw one through a different mirror, though seemingly never the one they were trying to go to. An unknown force provides light in the inside, though the light has just barely enough red to register on the brain and make it unsettling.
One who had previously gone into the house emerged with multiple lacerations and massive bleeding, though when it was brought to her attention she only said, "What? I feel just fi…" and passed out. (She may or may not survive. Also, before anyone calls me on this, yes I've seen Poltergeist 3 and no this isn't an "evil mirror duplicate".)

The not-new has been woggling in my headcase for a couple of months now, based from the image of the stone spiral platform on one of the photodump pages here. I have it viewed as something that "destroys the soul" (naturally, this wouldn't be in the write-up) but doesn't outright kill. Victims walk away with what can best be described as complete apathy, and unless measures are taken through outside forces they will die of malnutrition as they don't even care about eating. Breathing and respiration, being involuntary, will continue, posing another danger if a victim should be submerged in any liquid (as they will continue trying to breathe anyway).
Victims are drawn to the platform by the sign appearing nearby that says merely "The Answer". It appears different to each viewer and doesn't show up at all through technological means.

So… tips, tricks, nuclear bombs, world-destroying ki beams?

I came up with an idea today for an alternate way of releasing the SCP's.
There's so many of them, that it would be completely unrealistic to try to release them in a standard book format, even with multiple volumes.
Even if we did, the fact that new SCP's are being added constantly and changed makes bound books pretty much out.

Today, I saw a 4 inch binder with tons of legal documents in it.
There's our solution!
A massive PDF/Word document containing every current SCP. All SCP files would start on an odd numbered page. This makes it easy to add new SCP's as they're written, or remove old ones if they're decommissioned.

There would be 11 volumes; one for each block of 100. That cuts down on the binder sizes and makes sure there's going to be room for all of them once a block is filled.

As far as distribution: All it would require is the cost of the binders, (Buy in bulk?) and the cost to print everything double-sided.
Once the consumer has the volumized binders, there's a few options as far as updates go. First, someone could be in charge of keeping an updated file of all the SCP's as they're edited and added. Second, the consumer could be given a code or be put on a mailing list of some sort to download monthly packages of updates, additions, or notes of removal.
Updating their copy is as simple as taking out the old file and putting in the new one.

I'm not sure where they'd be sold, shipped, what they'd cost, or if we'd just have a file available for download for people to print themselves.
Personally, I would like to print a copy of all of them to have for myself; it'd be nice to forget about them for 10 years or so and have someone discover them later.

Anyway, just a proposal. We wouldn't need to do the grunge look on them, as they'd be the "original" documents if you know what I mean.
Pretty easy copy paste, reformat, and check that each document starts on an odd page.
Let me know what you think!

As the title says, new member, so of course I've got some ideas I'd like critiqued by those with more experience at SCP writing.

The first idea I've gotten as far as a first draft (posted here). It's actually based on the worst dream I've ever had - the "variant" behavior is actually what I care most about, and the other stuff is largely just to give it a more general behavior pattern.

My second idea I'm less certain about. It's a humanoid SCP (strike one), has moderate reality-warping effects (strike two), and is similar to a cross between scp-781 and scp-239 (strike three). The actual concept is that it's a young boy that is to all appearances normal physically and mentally (though possibly non-aging or slow-aging, to retain the hard-to-control nature of a child), but occasionally objects or creatures that he's imagining or thinking about will manifest nearby. Containment would entail keeping him occupied as much of the time as possible, to keep his mind from wandering and hopefully keep him from imagining anything dangerous. Which TV shows / movies / books / music are used to keep him busy would have to be carefully screened - Transformers, while age appropriate, could lead to Megatron appearing inside and SCP facility, which would be a bad thing.

Because he'd be physically normal, and have no active control over his ability, terminating/decommissioning him would be pretty trivial, and he'd only be kept around to test whether it's possible to guide his manifestations to something useful. Meanwhile, some occasional manifestations could already have been put to use in various ways - for example, introducing one of his Barneys to 682 would be a great morale-booster…

I'm sure the first idea could use some tweaking, and I'm not sure the second is even particularly doable, but I'm eager to contribute!

Well, since everybody else seemed to make one of these, I thought I might as well conform.

Ahem.

1. A 1964 ford mustang, painted red and white. It appeared in containment room 861 may 4th 1964 the day after it's manufacturing date. Inside was cotton seeds, several various ores, and 350KG of petri dish material interlaced with various microbes. The mustang cannot be photographed, and any attempts to do so while somebody is inside will show a floating person. In 2004, two young class D personal(combination of 350KG weight) got inside the mustang, played with some switches and the mustang dissapeared, never to be seen again. - Basically, it's a time machine that travels through time, aging or de-aging said material by the correct amount.

2. "perpetual toilet" An automatic toilet that is "garanteed to flush with no hands!". When activated the toilet will proceed to suck everything into it with an approvimate force of 400KG per inch, until a vacuum is established, or 5 seconds has passed. Anyone who uses this toilet must remain on the toilet or be sucked into it, never to be seen again. From time to time, this device will malfunction and randomly go off with no warning. Repair crews are to be sent in.(I don't know if there's already a SCP like this)

3. A yellow sign that says caution wet floor. The sign will make any floor it is placed upon wet, regardless of what the floor is made out of. The word wet can be whited out and replaced with any other adjetive, with corresponding results. (Please do not replace wet floor with mine field please.)

4. A black metal hunting bow with similiar black metal arrows. The hunting bow's tension exeeds 1200 metric tons, so is deemed unusable. When an arrow is slid across the string of the hunting bow, it emits a music unique to the individual. This "music" Will be exactly tailored to the individuals tastes to perfectly that they will be unwilling to stop. Other people who hear this will be unaffected at first, but over large periods of time, they will begin to exhibit personality traits as the person playing, and over a larger period time will begin to take on physical characteristics of the person playing.

Those are the four ideas I thought would be interesting. Don't know if their any good or not though.

In case you've been wondering about my absence lately…

I'd like to introduce the one, the only, and the uncannily stubborn
Ophelia Arlene Sturz

For those of you who've been keeping track, you'll know that I started having contractions around last Saturday, pretty regular, not so strong that I couldn't work through them. It took an entire week, untill Friday, for anything to actually change when my water started to break shortly after returning home from a concert. From there, the contractions went from ten minutes apart, to five minutes apart, and we were off to the hospital around two in the morning on Friday.

Things went a little iffy there.

When my contractions didn't change and the baby wasn't dropping fast enough, they started me on a Pitocin drip, which worked excellently for a while and, ladies, I suggest that if any of you are having a prolonged labor, hit up the Pitocin. It works pretty well.

Except in my case. Labor progressed slowly, and late late Friday they decided to fully break my water manually, then things progressed quickly. Contractions grew crazy strong and frequent (I managed them for the most part by watching the Tim Burton Batman Trilogy) until finally they decided to check me again to see how much longer I should be there.

Turned out that I had been at 5cm for nine hours and even though contractions grew to be nearly a full minute in length and barely enough time apart to breathe. I don't actually remember exactly what was going on. Funny thing, that, enough pain and your brain just blots it out.

What I do remember, though, was when the Doctor came in. Dr. Ezenagu, a pretty cool guy (and a father of a friend) came in, did some checking, discussed with the midwives quietly, then said, in his heavy nigerian accent (He is a nigerian immegrant)

"We have to do a C-section."

Things had been going downhill for me and the baby, and it was the only option left. The surgery itself was actually rather pleasant, but that may be the morphine and full-body numbing talking.

And, with one hell of a scream (she's got LUNGS) the world was introduced to Ophelia, eight pounds, nine ounces (BIG) and with a pretty high Apgar score, and all was good.

Now, things are still going on, and our hands are full as full can be, but it's all worth it.

I'll be poking around here for at least a bit, have one idea so far and more probably will come intermittently. I tend to lurk and poke around more than talk, although if a topic comes up that catches my fancy you'll probably never get me to shut up :)

So hi everyone.

Most of the Safe humanoid SCPs have some kind of containment rules to the tune of "room X by X by X, all requests blah blah blah" which can get repetitive. An idea would be to classify these into more standard requirements. For example:

Holding Cell - A bare concrete holding cell with built-in bed and facilities. For ornery or misbehaving SCPs.
Quarters - Bedroom/study and bathroom. Similar to a single-person hospital apartment. For the average SCP.
Luxury Quarters - Large bedroom with adjacent study, kitchen/dining area, sitting room and bathroom. Similar to a luxury hotel suite. For SCPs with special arrangements with the Foundation.
